The process of CNC milling
Milling is a process in which a special cutting tool is used to cut away pieces of material from the surface of the product. This is done by means of a type of horizontal drill, the milling cutter, which is applied at high rotational speeds and removes unnecessary pieces.
The process shows similarities with everyday shaving. Teeth of the tool are continuously applied to the surface, and when the milling cutter moves, small pieces are ‘shaved away’.
Within milling, a distinction is made between two important processes – edge milling and face milling. The latter process is the most common, in which flat surfaces are machined. Baas Metaal has a wide range of various tools and offers solutions within all milling processes.
Fully computer controlled
The milling machines are of course computer-controlled and guarantee extremely precise results, which are bolstered by the wide range of milling tools that Baas Metaal has at its disposal. The automatic change also ensures increased efficiency.
The operation also requires few man-hours. Before the process, only the necessary drawings need to be uploaded to the machine. Then, with one push of a button, a complex operation can be carried out, such as applying engravings and cavities in metal blocks.
