A metalworking company in Almelo, the Netherlands: sheet metal, machining, welding and assembly under one roof, with short lines between preparation and the shop floor.

What we do

We make parts and assemblies from sheet, tube and section. Cutting, bending, welding, machining, finishing and assembly all happen within the same organisation, which means a question about a part does not have to be chased between suppliers.

Since 1987

Baas Metaal has existed since 1987 and works from Almelo, the Netherlands, with 36 employees. The sheet metal warehouse is fully automated, and production runs 24 hours a day.

What is on the shop floor

  • Three TRUMPF laser cutting machines, the largest with a working area of 4000 × 2000 mm. See laser cutting.
  • Seven press brakes, for a bending length up to 4000 mm and a press force up to 320 tonnes.
  • TIG, MIG and MAG welding, with welder qualifications from Lastechniek Oost, and two cobots for robot welding.
  • One 3-axis CNC milling machine with a working area of 1500 × 650 × 600 mm.
  • In house as well: glass bead blasting, tapping, countersinking, sawing, shearing and assembly. Powder coating is done by a regular partner.

Tube and section are cut on a TRUMPF TruLaser Tube 3000 at our sister company Assink & Schipholt. All machines and their limits are on the machine park page.

Delivery

We do not quote a fixed lead time, because it differs per product. Delivery reliability is 96%. For regular customers we make a product within one or two working days when it has to.

Quality

The quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015 by TÜV NORD Nederland, for laser cutting, sheet metal and structural work, and the manufacture of semi-finished products and machine parts. Scope, validity and the certificate itself are on the certificates page.

How we work

Preparation is where most of the time and most of the mistakes are saved. That is where the order of operations is decided, how a product is held, and which dimensions are critical. The earlier we are involved in a design, the more of that is still open to choose.

Talking to the people who make it

When you have a question about your product you talk to someone who knows how it is made. That follows from how the company is set up: the distance between the office and the hall is short.
